Pezz' a culore: A Molisan dialect colouring book

$35.00

Collaborative project between Cassandra Marsillo and Jordan Black (https://www.instagram.com/lengalonga/).

60-page colouring book. Each drawing is accompanied by a text pulling on our historical, linguistic, and folkloric knowledge in order to explain the etymology and significance of the words and images.

A pezz’ or pezza is a patch of fabric. Pezz’ a culore means a patch that perfectly matches the colour of the garment to be mended. So when we say something goes pezz’ a culore, that means it’s just right. Of course, our grandparents always had to make do and mend, but by extension the expression has come to mean any time you find the perfect fit. That includes finding just the right word.

Language is a core piece of identity. But not everyone has the privilege of learning their ancestors’ mother tongue. For those of us who grew up hearing these dialect words every day, even if those we once spoke them with are gone, sometimes the dialect word is the only one that will do. For those who never had the chance to learn the dialect, we hope that you find that part of your identity reflected in these pages, while connecting with the words from our collective past and, hopefully, future.

Details: spiral-bound, thick high-quality paper, cardstock cover.
